What Is a Battery Compartment on an Enclosure?
Many types of handheld electronic devices use removable batteries such as alkaline batteries, non-rechargeable lithium batteries or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Since it’s easier to specify an enclosure with a built-in feature from the beginning than to have it custom-made later, many manufacturers choose handheld enclosure models with integrated battery boxes for their handheld devices.
A battery compartment typically includes cutouts and standoffs to hold the battery in place and accommodate its contacts. Some models also include the battery contacts themselves and a battery door for the compartment. This helps keep the battery safely connected at all times while protecting it from exposure to corrosive substances and other environmental hazards.

This tough and cost-effective material is the industry standard for all kinds of small electronics enclosures, and our ABS enclosures even offer UL 94 flame resistance, thanks to the material’s naturally flame-retardant qualities.
- Battery Type: Our enclosures include options for a variety of battery types. We offer enclosures with compartments for all of the most common battery sizes, including 9-volt battery holders, AA battery holders and button cell battery holders to cover all of the most commonly used battery sizes for handheld devices.
- Optional Features: We offer additional choices for many of our battery compartment models, including:
